Three players from Romania were in action in Wednesday’s first-round doubles at the US Open, but two of them were opponents. Gabriela Ruse was the only one to advance to the next round.

Gabriela Ruse, the only representative of Romania in the second round of the US Open doubles

Gabriela Ruse, together with her partner, Ukrainian Marta Kostiuk, on Wednesday defeated the pair of Iryna Begu and Angelina Kalinin in two sets with a score of 7-5, 6-2.

The favorites at number 14 to win the tournament Ruse and Kostyuk will meet the winners of the match between Khromachova / Saville and Crowley / Tangilig in the second round.

Monica Niculescu and Chile’s Alexa Guaraci were also stopped in the first round, losing 6-3, 6-4 to Americans Sophie Chung and Alicia Parks.

For access to the second round of the US Open, Gabriela Ruse and her partner will receive a check for $36,800.

Instead, Iryna Begu and Monica Niculescu will each receive $22,000.

US Open 2023 will be held from August 28 to September 10, and the most important matches from Flushing Meadows will be on HotNews.ro every day. The defending champions are Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Sviatek, and the men’s doubles pair are Rajiv Ram/Joe Salisbury and Barbora Krejcikova/Kateryna Sinyakova.
