Top favorite and reigning Flushing Meadows champion Carlos Alcaraz defeated Dominic Kepfer to advance to the second round of the 2023 US Open.

Just a few minutes into the match, in the first set, Kepfer (75 ATP) sprained his ligaments and requested a medical time-out to bandage his ankle.
