The Ministry of Defense of Russia announced that it destroyed four Ukrainian warships in the Black Sea with special forces on board, reports AFP.

On Wednesday, around 00:00 local time (21:00 GMT Tuesday), “a Black Sea Fleet Air Force aircraft (…) destroyed four high-speed warships with landing groups of Ukrainian special operations forces. up to 50 people in total,” the ministry said in Telegram, without providing any other information.

Ukraine on Thursday hailed the end of a rare special forces operation on the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Moscow in 2014, and the fact that it raised the national flag there, a symbolic victory in the bastion that Moscow considers impregnable.

Units of the Ukrainian special forces from the sea landed in the area of ​​the villages of Olenivka and Mayak in western Crimea, after which they left “without losses”, having completed all the tasks and tasks set before them, according to the information of the Ukrainian military.

On August 22, Russia said it had destroyed an American-made spacecraft carrying Ukrainian military personnel near Snake Island, after it claimed the destruction of a reconnaissance ship in the Black Sea the same day.
