For both outgoing and incoming trucks, the busiest border crossing points are located in the east of the country, in Galatasaray and Izakce, where the waiting time is 120 and 440 minutes, respectively.
According to the border police, only on Friday about 450,700 people, Romanian citizens and foreigners, passed control formalities, of which more than 273,500 were on their way out of the country, correspondingly more than 117,500 vehicles.
According to the source, 177,169 people entered Romania, including 16,894 citizens of Ukraine. Thus, starting from February 10, 2022 (pre-conflict period) until August 25, 2023, at midnight, 5,763,454 citizens of Ukraine entered Romania at the national level.
“Like every weekend, there is an increase in the intensity of traffic at the main checkpoints, especially on the border with Bulgaria and Hungary. Thus, measures were taken to supplement the control arteries to the maximum capacity allowed by the infrastructure of each checkpoint, respectively, to supplement staff. In addition, in order to regulate traffic on the borders of Romania, representatives of the border police of Romania are constantly communicating with the border authorities of Hungary and Bulgaria in order to coordinate joint measures for the rapid execution of control formalities,” the border police reported. .
As drivers usually cross the border through PTF Nădlac II and PTF Petea, from the border with Hungary, respectively PTF Giurgiu, from the border with Bulgaria, the border police recommends that citizens also pass through other existing border points on the border to avoid the appearance of agglomerations.
“We remind you that there are 12 international checkpoints for people, cars and trucks on the border with Hungary, and 11 checkpoints on the border with Bulgaria. Also, over the past day, border guards discovered 57 illegal acts (27 crimes and 30 misdemeanors) committed by both Romanian and foreign citizens. The amount of fines applied for offenses is approximately 37,000 lei, which are increased for confiscation of goods worth approximately 20,700 lei. 18 foreign citizens who did not meet the requirements of the law were not allowed into the country, and 16 Romanian citizens were not released for various legal reasons.
