
Claude Ruiz Picasso, the son of Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, has died, his lawyer Jean-Jacques Noyer said on Thursday, AFP reported. Agerpres.
“He died in Switzerland at the age of 76,” the lawyer added, without specifying the cause of death.
Claude Ruiz Picasso was the administrator of the Picasso estate from 1989 to 2023, which manages the rights related to the artist and his works. Last July, he wanted to retire and leave the position to his sister Paloma, who was appointed administrator.
Pablo Picasso had four children: Paul, his eldest son, who was born from his relationship with Olga Khokhlova and died in 1975; Maya, daughter of Marie-Thérèse Walter, who died in 2022, Claude and Paloma, born from a relationship with Françoise Gillot.
“Claude Ruiz Picasso leaves his wife, Sylvie Vauthier marries Picasso and they have two children, Jasmin and Solal,” added lawyer Neuer.
The family has a monopoly on the copyright and reproduction of Picasso’s works, as well as personal rights, moral rights and trademark rights. It issues certificates of authentication, fights counterfeiting and constantly takes legal action.
