Former interior minister Lucian Bode said on Tuesday that 44 anti-drug devices were also purchased as part of the first European-funded project, which saw the Ministry of the Interior purchase 300 BMWs. Bode also specified that the ministry is purchasing another 200 drug tests, corresponding to 800 breathalyzers.
His explanations are related to the fact that the police officers who stopped the young man who killed two people did not have an anti-drug test.
“The project he is talking about with European funds is actually two projects – the first project involves the purchase of 1,400 tablets, which happened, the purchase of software to regulate 1,400 tablets, the purchase of software to integrate information among these plates, the purchase of 300 special vehicles, something partially occurred; the procurement of 44 drug tests, which is currently underway, is in progress. According to another project, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is purchasing 200 drug tests, respectively 800 breathalyzers,” said the former Minister of Internal Affairs.
Bode was responding to USR leader Catalin Drula’s accusation that the Ministry of the Interior would rather buy BMWs than equip police with drug-testing cars.
“I am commenting on the statement of the half-baked politician Drula, who without any sympathy in the face of this tragedy climbs over corpses and wants to earn political points, accusing me of embezzling the project with European funds for the purchase of special vehicles. not drug tests,” the PNL general secretary responded to the opposition’s accusations.
USR President Cătălin Drula said in a Facebook post that “the European-funded project they hijacked to buy a BMW from a friend of the president included a component of purchasing DrugTest devices, among many others.”
“They were able to buy a BMW, but they still haven’t bought devices for testing psychoactive substances today. This shows their priorities. Prime Minister Čolaka should be fired by Preda, who can’t even say how many drug testing machines the Romanian police have. To all specific questions from the press, this arrogant minister defiantly answers that these are “technical details”. You have to go home after giving up. After 4 years of PNL in MAI, they destroyed the Romanian police!” wrote Drula.

Two young people died four days ago after a 19-year-old boy, under the influence of drugs, drove his car into a group of people. About three hours before the traffic accident, he was stopped by the police and taken to the police station, where after an alcohol test, the result of which turned out to be negative, he was released. Less than an hour later, he became the cause of the tragedy.
Why doesn’t every police officer take a drug test? The answer of the current Minister of Internal Affairs
Minister of Internal Affairs Katalin Predoyu clarified at the press conference that the policemen who stopped the driver before the tragedy should have checked him. According to him, usually every traffic police officer should have a drug test with him.
“I can’t say how many drug testing devices the police have (…) The question is why not every policeman has a drug test on them. The answers go back many years,” answered Predoyu.
When asked during the press conference whether the European project through which the cars for the police were bought also has a component for the purchase of drugs testing machines, Predoyu replied: “I did not organize the auction for BMW.”
