Two young men were beaten by six unknown men on Tuesday afternoon in Kostineshti, and the assailants brutalized the police and gendarmes who were called to intervene, police said. On the footage that appeared in the public space, it can be seen how after the appearance of the police, everything turned into a general fight between tourists, policemen and gendarmes, several men were handcuffed right on the beach. The footage also shows a gendarme beating a tourist.

According to the Konstanz County Police, two 19-year-old and 23-year-old youths reported to the police in Kostinesti around 2:15 p.m. that they had been beaten by several unknown persons.

• “Two mixed patrols, consisting of policemen and gendarmes of the Tomis Constanţa Mobile Group of Gendarmes, went to the indicated area and identified the suspects, respectively six men.
• They showed unruly and physically aggressive behavior towards the policemen and gendarmes, who were also threatened, as a result of which they were immobilized, and the persons in question were taken to the headquarters of the Kostineshti Police Station,” IPJ said in a statement. The police say they have opened criminal proceedings for insults, beatings or other violence and public order violations.

Handcuffs on the beach

The footage, which was made public, shows how, after the appearance of the police, everything escalated into a general fight between the aggressors, policemen and gendarmes, and several men were handcuffed right on the beach. The footage also shows a gendarme beating a tourist.

Europol later released a small fragment and the beginning of the scandal: “Come on, let’s fight” is the beginning of a conflict caused by the excessive consumption of alcohol and the terribleness of these young people.

The gendarmerie says it will “thoroughly study” the image

The Constanta mobile gendarmerie team responded by saying it would “carefully study” the footage of the fight on the beach.

• “During the intervention at the Kostinesht resort, the gendarmes encountered a tense situation in which they were subjected to aggressive behavior and repeated insults from the participants of the conflict.
• We note the fact that the mobile team of the Gendarmerie of Constanta will carefully study the image to assess how it acted and will take steps to verify all aspects related to the method of intervention.
