“As they say, now he is free from sin before God. He is free. He has been pardoned. He is starting from scratch,” said his mother, as quoted by the source.

He served less than three months of over 9 years in prison for the heinous crime

Pardoned Vyacheslav Samoilov was sentenced to 9 and a half years in prison in 2022 for the murder of his partner Olga, 33, in their shared apartment in the Arkhangelsk region (north).

Samoilov, who dismembered the victim’s body and hid his head and limbs, was called to prison and spent less than three months at the front, from where he returned after being wounded.

The man’s mother claims that her son would have gone to war even if he had not been convicted of murder like his younger brother.

“He just came back from the hospital. He can’t work yet, his arm and leg hurt,” she explained.

The head of Wagner’s mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, recently announced that he has stopped recruiting people into Russian prisons, which the Russian Ministry of Defense will continue to do, human rights groups report.

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed in mid-July that he pardoned prisoners recruited to fight in a neighboring country.

Since the start of the war in February 2022, tens of thousands of former detainees would have died in Ukraine, activists believe.
