On Tuesday evening, a fire broke out on a transformer in the yard of the Center for Neuropsychomotor Rehabilitation of Children named after Dr. Nicolae Robanescu in the capital, more than 100 patients were evacuated and transferred to the Marie Curie Hospital.

The fire spread to two cars, strong flames and smoke were visible.

“We intervene to extinguish the fire at the substation (transformer), which spread to two cars on D. Minka Street (in the yard of the Robanescu Hospital). The fire is manifested by strong flames and smoke emissions, at the moment we are acting to contain it and limit its spread to the hospital,” ISU Bucharest-Ilfov said on Tuesday evening, as quoted by News.ro.

The source said the hospital was evacuated, including the children, who were transferred to Marie Curie Hospital.

“In response to the alarm, 8 water and foam extinguishing machines, 2 vehicles of the emergency and rescue service, a special unit of rescuers, the CBRN, a nitrogen vehicle and 2 ambulances of the SMURD were raised,” the source said.

According to firefighters, 110 children were evacuated and transferred to Marie Curie Hospital.

The head of the emergency department, Raed Arafat, said in a televised address that there were no casualties or people in need of medical attention, and that the children would return to the Robanescu Rehabilitation Center after the fire was put out.

The operation was conducted under the direction of the medical director, Dr. Andrade Mirea, who was on duty at the time. The Minister of Health is in constant contact with the management of the two hospitals to ensure the safe transfer of patients to Marie Curie Hospital, which has allocated additional staff to the emergency department until the situation is resolved.
