The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said in a response to Antena 3 that no decision has been made in the case of Simona Halep.
“I promise you that no decision has been made for anyone yet (not even in Simona Halep’s doping trial).
He is clearly marked as suspended on the US Open registry, and so if he remains suspended, he will be recalled. If not, it can compete,” ITIA told the quoted source.
An official response from Sport Resolutions, the independent tribunal in London that hears doping cases in white sport, is due in the coming days.
WTA rules and how Simona Halep can return to the field
According to journalist Daniel Radu, a player serving a disqualified period cannot be automatically registered for Grand Slam tournaments.
Thus, two options are possible, according to which the Romanian could return to the field as soon as possible:
- his suspension was finally lifted
- he received a suspension of less than a year.
In the event of a favorable verdict for Simona Halep, the ITIA is expected to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
