The United States plans to announce as early as Tuesday a new military aid package for Ukraine worth up to $400 million, consisting mainly of artillery, anti-aircraft missiles and ground-based equipment, as Ukraine continues its counteroffensive, three U.S. officials said on Friday, Reuters reported.

The US is not including cluster munitions in this military aid package, said the two officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The US first sent dual-purpose advanced conventional munitions (DPICM) – cluster munitions fired from a 155mm howitzer – to Ukraine in early July.

The package includes several Stryker armored personnel carriers, mine clearance equipment, munitions for the National Advanced Anti-Aircraft Missile Systems (NASAMS), munitions for the High Mobility Artillery Missile Systems (HIMARS), anti-tank weapons including the TOW and Javelin, and munitions for the Patriot and Stinger anti-aircraft systems, officials said.

The package is still being finalized and may still change.

The package would be funded through the Presidential Drawdown Authority, or PDA, which authorizes the president to draw down goods and services from US stockpiles without congressional approval during an emergency. The material will come from excess US stocks.

The security assistance package will be the 43rd approved by the United States for Ukraine since the February 2022 Russian invasion, worth more than $41 billion.
