A detachment of Russian volunteers from the occupied Kherson region has reportedly been forcibly disarmed by the Federal Security Service (FSB), likely due to fears of a new Wagner-style insurgency.
According to the Telegram channel of the Cheka-OGPU, the regional office of the FSB in Kherson conducted a “special operation” against the “Vyhr” battalion, which is part of the “Union of Donbas Volunteers” (SDD). According to SDD, the Whirlwind has been fighting since February 2022.
This is reported in the Russian Telegram channel of the Cheka-OGPU, named after the first secret police of Soviet Russia, where it is reported that the regional office of the FSB in Kherson conducted a “special operation” against the “Vykhor” battalion, which is part of the Donbas SDF, reports independent researcher Chris Owen, who picked up the information on his Twitter page.

A source of the Cheka-OGPU reported that due to “fear of a new mutiny,” the battalion’s camp “was fenced off, every soldier was searched, and all hiding places were looted. All seized weapons have been handed over to the local police station and are awaiting examination.”
- “It is interesting that, despite active measures and a whole arsenal of weapons, investigators are in no hurry to open proceedings, probably waiting for permission”
- “The fate of the disarmed group is still unclear, but it is already said that the commanders of the “Whirlwind” are trying to reach someone with the authority to resolve the conflict. They can’t go to Moscow with anything.”
According to SDD, the Whirlwind has been fighting since February 2022.
On the SDD page on the VKontakte social network, it is stated that the battalion “took part in the battles near Kharkiv and Volkansk, in the LPR and in the Kherson direction.”
We will remind you that the most important crisis for Russia since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine occurred last month, on June 24. It was 24 hours before Yevgeny Prigozhin took control of Rostov, a strategic point for the Russians in the war in Ukraine, sent Wagner’s troops on the march to Moscow, only to be ordered back.
Wagner’s uprising shook the Russian government against the background of the conflict in Ukraine. Within a few hours, the fighters of this group occupied the headquarters of the Russian army in Rostov-on-Don (southwest) and marched hundreds of kilometers towards Moscow. The uprising ended on the evening of June 24 with a deal in which Prigozhin left for Belarus and his fighters could join him, join the regular Russian army, or return to civilian life.

We will also remind you that on Friday, the well-known Russian nationalist Igor Girkin was detained on charges of inciting extremism, and the Moscow District Courtdecided that he will be in custody during the investigation until September 18.
Authorities in Moscow appear to have grown weary of his criticism of what they call Russia’s “special military operation” and perhaps of other strong nationalist voices who seemed to have the exclusive right to mock the military effort or criticize military leaders.
