Ukraine’s counteroffensive is “far from a failure,” despite progressing more slowly than expected, General Mark Milley said Tuesday, CNN reports.
“It started about five or six weeks ago, and the various war simulations that were done earlier were predicting some levels of advance, but the counteroffensive has slowed down. why Because it’s the difference between a war on paper and a real war,” Milley said during a press conference.
“These are real people in real cars who are actually demining real minefields and dying. So when that happens, units tend to slow down, and that’s fair enough to survive and get through those minefields,” he says.
“It’s far from a failure,” Milley added. “From my point of view, I think it’s too early to talk about it. I think there’s still a lot of fighting ahead.”
Milli also noted that Ukraine has “significant combat power that has not yet been used” in the counteroffensive.
“I will not say what will happen next, because it will be Ukraine’s decision, where and when they will direct their reserves, etc.,” he said.
“They are now maintaining their combat power and slowly, deliberately and steadily making their way through all these minefields,” the American general concluded.
