The Russian language is the language of the “aggressor state” and it has no place in Kyiv, said city council member Vadym Vasylchuk, quoted in the press release.

“Cultural productions in the Russian language must be restricted once and for all on the territory of the capital of Ukraine,” he insisted.

The decision was supported by 71 out of 120 council members.

This also applies to historical works of great artistic value, such as Mikhail Bulgakov, one of the most famous Russian-language writers from Kyiv.

Sanctions for violating these provisions are not disclosed.

Ukraine is making more efforts to popularize the Ukrainian language after the pro-Western revolution of 2014. The Constitution of Ukraine still continues to guarantee the use of the Russian language as one of the minority languages in this country, but after the Russian Invasion in February 2022, the pressure on everything related to Russia increased, the DPA agency, quoted by Agerpres, noted.
