Former coach of the women’s youth team, with whom he won bronze at the 2016 World Championships, coach Ion Krechun died on Thursday at the age of 67 of a heart attack.

Handball coach Ion Krechun died

Born on September 25, 1955, Jon Krechun last coached Korona from Brasov, and since 2019 he has retired to his home in Constanta. Throughout his career, he was on the technical bench of CSM Medgidia, Minaur Baia Mare, Tomis Constanţa, HCM Constanţa, Neptun Constanţa and Corona Braşov. With HCM Constanţa, he won the national title in 2011, according to News.ro.

Ion Krechun also coached the women’s youth team, with whom he won bronze at the 2016 World Championships.

“It is with sadness in our hearts that we say goodbye to one of the most valuable Romanian handball coaches, Ion Krecun. Condolences and strength to relatives! Rest in peace, master!” – one of the condolences sent on Thursday by the Suceava CSU.

Several National League clubs sent their condolences on Thursday following the news.
