“We warn the government that the protest organized tomorrow, Wednesday, July 12, in Piața Victoriei, is part of a series of protests that precede the deadline set for a decision to start a general strike in the health sector,” they say. health care trade unions.

“Continuing the series of protests started two months ago, the Health Solidarity Federation announces a new national meeting of health workers on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, starting at 11:00 a.m. at Victory Square in Bucharest. It is expected that more than 5,000 healthcare workers will take part in the protest, who will fight the heat and, above all, the authorities’ indifference to the situation of those who care about the health of citizens,” the trade unions note.

The demands of the protesters “are aimed at obtaining some rights to pay and introducing some reform measures in the implementation of the activities of health care workers.”

“The wage demands come against a backdrop of a sharp decline in real wages (purchasing power of wages) due to inflation, compounded by a wave of falling wage incomes being felt in an increasing number of establishments. They, in particular, are aimed at the fundamental rights provided for by the current legislation on labor remuneration, which workers are deprived of in an offensive way,” say representatives of the Federation Solidaritatea Sanităra.

The protest is being held in the context of an “unprecedented decline” in the trust of health workers in the government, highlighted by the “Deception Decree” (EOG No. 63/2023). This “phantom resolution” (which “exists”, but the announced consequences of which no one sees; details here) “not only does not solve the problems with the wages of workers, but also exacerbates the previous ones. It is also an example of indifference and incompetence, which is a real insult to healthcare professionals. This regulatory act is another proof that the Government did not really take into account the legitimate expectations of medical workers, refusing to solve their problems through negotiations with the organization that represents them during the protest actions,” the medical unions state.
