According to the Railway Reform Authority, the amount of subsidy for students on railway transport has been increased from 50% to 90%, and the age of beneficiaries has been increased from 26 to 30 years.

ARF wrote that new opportunities are provided by the Law on Higher Education, which was published in the Official Monitor of Romania no. 614, 05/07/2023.

“The adoption of this law confirms the privileges provided by the previous legislation to students studying full-time in accredited higher education institutions for rail transport, but also a number of new rights appear,” ARF reports on Facebook.

What’s new about student benefits

• increasing the level of the concession rate from 50% to 90% on local public transport, domestic road transport, with the metro, as well as domestic railway transport in all categories of trains, 2nd class and sea, during the calendar year;

• 90% increase in the age of students who use the preferential rate, from 26 to 30 years;

• establishment of the right of passage with a 50% discount on the territory of Romania for rail transport on all categories of trains, 2nd class, during the calendar year until reaching the age of 30 for registered students-citizens of Romania in educational institutions abroad in the full-time form of education on the basis of a student ticket/ticket valid for this academic year;

• inclusion in the category of students who benefit from financial support, respectively, those whose only one parent has died, as well as students from accommodation centers or those who were placed with a family, surrogate or foster family, in accordance with the provisions of Art. . . 64 par. (1) from Law No. 272/2004 on protection and promotion of children’s rights, reissued with further amendments and additions.

Financing of expenses for the metro and railway transport for all categories of II-class trains is provided from the budget of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and Methodical rules of the metro and railway transport will be approved by the Government’s decision, according to the ARF.
