After an hour and 36 minutes of play, the Romanians won 6-4, 6-4.
In the next round, Bohdan and Christian will play against the team of Lidia Morozova/Ingrid Martinsh Gamarra (Belarus/Brazil).
Saturday’s match between Iryna Begu/Angelina Kalinin and Storm Hunter/Elise Mertens (favourites 3) was interrupted by rain with a score of 2-6, 0-2. The match of the second round will continue on Sunday.
The pair of Gabriela Ruse/Marta Kostiuk, who will play against the Czechs Miriam Kolodzeyova/Marketa Vondrousova, also qualifies for the same phase of the competition.
The second round teams will receive £22,000 and 130 WTA doubles points.
