Goats Charlie, Shepherdess, Mallomar and Chico go on a mission this summer to eat the weeds growing on the rocks of Forever Wild, a nature preserve and bird sanctuary in Riverside Park, located on the Hudson River on the Upper West Side in Manhattan , reports EFE, according to Agerpres.
Never before has a loader been given so much attention
The presentation of these herbivores with an oblique role took place on Friday at the Goatham festival, which was held in a park that needs to be cleaned.
Participants treated ruminants like real rock stars, took selfies with goats and tried to get as close as possible to the animals.

The goats have two and a half months to clear the weeds
Marcus Cáceres, one of the organizers of the event who works to preserve the park, told EFE that the goal is for these goats to eat the invasive species that grow in the area over the next two and a half months.
“It is very difficult for us to work in this space because it is very uneven, there are many fallen trees, poison ivy and many obstacles, which makes it very difficult for our employees to work there (…) We improvised and we… we thought about getting an additional help, so we decided to take goats to help us,” he explained.
Cáceres emphasized that it is also a very ecological way of cleaning the area, as it avoids the use of pesticides and the animals are very friendly.
“Goats are very sociable. It’s very difficult for us to convince them to eat, because they prefer to talk to those who pass by,” says Cáceres.
Second chance for goats
As for the popularity of goats in New York, Caceres says the animals have a “fun club.”
“(Kozel) Mallomar has been with us for three seasons. And he does a great job. But in general, all (the goats) are very friendly and nice. And each of them has its own personality,” Cáceres continued.
He explained that the four goats whose mission it is to clean up this part of New York City are part of Green Goat, an organization that offers a new chance to goats and sheep that have been abandoned or “retired.”
He also noted that these animals are used to eat all kinds of invasive plants in various parks in New York, such as Prospect Park in Brooklyn and Governors Island, located on this island south of Manhattan.
