Romania is among the European countries that do not give any official recognition to homosexual couples, but this will change in the future, in case of the adoption of a bill submitted for public discussion by the Ministry of the Interior. The bill is meant to fulfill an obligation that the Romanian state has had since 2018, when it lost a case at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and the Constitutional Court found that the article of the Civil Code was only constitutional. to the extent that allows free movement in the EU even for same-sex couples.
