One of the important vulnerabilities in the economy is the chronic undercapitalization of companies, says Florian Nyagu, who will be the head of the Office of Financial Stability of the BNR, currently acting.

“Almost a third of companies in Romania, more than 255,000 companies, do not meet this legal requirement of 200 lei capital,” he says.

According to him, there are companies that have been unprofitable for years, that have completely washed away their capital and become negative.

“However, they remain on the market. It is these companies that create the largest arrears, that do not pay invoices with their partners, that generate the highest payment indiscipline,” said Nyagu.

According to him, these companies are profitable, but entrepreneurs, instead of using this profit to capitalize their companies, according to the law, because it is negative capital, prefer to eat it.

“We see a significant improvement in both financial intermediation and the health of the economy if the level of capitalization improves,” he added.
