Silvio Berlusconi’s eldest children, Marina and Pier Silvio, will jointly share control of the business empire he founded, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters, following the declassification of the former prime minister’s will.
Marina and Pier Silvio Berlusconi, who already hold senior positions in some parts of the business, will have equal stakes totaling around 53 percent in the family holding company Fininvest, the source said, confirming an earlier report by the ANSA news agency.
Marina manages Fininvest, and Pierre Silvio took care of the television business MFE-MediaForEurope, which has long become the pearl of the family.
Earlier, Berlusconi’s five children said in a statement that “no single shareholder will exercise the individual global indirect control over Fininvest SpA that their father previously exercised.”
Barbara, Eleonora and Luigi Berlusconi, his three children from his second marriage, were less involved in the family business.
Berlusconi, who died on June 12 at the age of 86, decided on his inheritance back in 2006, according to a copy of his will seen by Reuters.
He added next to his signature on the will the message: “Thank you, with much love to you all, your father.”
Shares of B MFE on the Milan Stock Exchange fell after the will was made public, losing about 0.4%.
Shares had previously risen on speculation that the family might sell its stake, but MFE chief executive Pier Silvio Berlusconi said this week that a sale had never been discussed and that the company would maintain its plans to grow in Europe.
“There appears to be continuity in MFE’s management, reducing the stock’s speculative appeal,” Equita analysts wrote in a note.
