
Vlad Daskalou (Trek Factory) finished third on Sunday in the cross-country (XCO) in Val di Sole, Italy, the fourth stage of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.
For the Romanian athlete, this is the first ascent to the podium this season.
The Swiss Nico Schuerter won the race with a time of 1 hour 20 minutes 22 seconds, followed by his compatriot Matthias Flückiger in 26 seconds and Vlad Daskalou in 38 seconds. In the XCC short track, the Romanian was 23rd, writes Agerpres.
Daskelu, a gold medalist at the European Games in Poland in the mountain bike competition, climbed to 14th in the World Cup rankings after four stages with 425 points. Swiss Schurter remains the leader with 848 points, followed by Frenchman Jordan Sarrou (726) and South African Alan Hatherly (721).
The next stage of the World Cup takes place in Pal-Arinsal (Andorra) from August 25 to 28.
This year’s Mountain Bike World Championships will be held in Glasgow from August 8 to 12.
