Summer is here and you want to buy a pair of breathable sneakers. You go to several online stores to see what’s new. Meanwhile, you’ve got a social media alert, and from there it’s one step to scrolling and losing 20 minutes.

Here you can also see advertisements for sports shoes from various online stores. You didn’t even know about the existence of some. I draw your attention to the published photos.

You can’t find your number, even though there is a 50% discount, you go back to the social network and another one appears: another ad.

Remember, you are a product of social media, so it’s free. In fact, they cost you time and they make money because of you.

You can find the right product in a maximum of an hour, you can see the brand on the shoes (because you want everyone to see which company the shoes are), and you make an order.

You think you have little money left for food or outings this month: you’ve given away too much money to keep up appearances.

Impulse buying is one of the reasons why most people do not have a stable financial position, savings and investments. Those who do this with credit cards are in an even worse position: they’re basically buying things they can’t afford. Thus, the debts remain.

What research says about logo size on clothing

Research shows that there is an inverse relationship between the cost of a luxury product and the size of its logo: the smaller and more inconspicuous the logo, the more expensive and exclusive the product.

This is because products with more prominent logos send signals of wealth only to those who recognize them, while products with larger and more prominent logos are bought by the less affluent.

*In this regard, see Berger, JA, & Ward, M. (2010). Subtle signals of imperceptible consumption

Others show that people with low self-esteem are more likely to wear brand-name clothing to improve self-esteem and express their belonging to a social group.

Conversely, people with a high level of self-esteem are less interested in brands and more in the quality and functionality of products.

This explains the fact that many successful entrepreneurs known throughout the world do not wear clothes with visible logos. Moreover, what they have achieved is more important to them than how it is demonstrated. What I do and what I think is important: Changing the world is much more important.

Reasons why some people do not have enough financial resources

Other reasons why many people fail to get rich, apart from the impulse purchases mentioned above:

  • Indiscipline of spending – I spend chaotically, without a plan.
  • Lack of income growth – many accept low-paid work and do not even like what they do. The ideal is to improve your skills, develop new ones (continuous learning) and look for opportunities.
  • Lack of financial education – savings are not enough. You need to understand how money works, become financially literate and know how to invest. For this you need to start studying.
  • No idea what you should pay yourself first. Many people initially pay utility providers, various services, but not them. First you should save money for yourself, then for the rest of the things.
  • You allow yourself to be influenced by people who do not have high incomes and do not make investments.

In conclusion, you should not exaggerate and try not to be influenced by advertising. They are created by marketers to deceive us: to stop thinking rationally and buy impulsively, sometimes even unnecessary things. Thus, expenses become unnecessary and may exceed our income.
