Contemporary art is becoming an increasingly attractive option for collectors and investors in Romania, offering aesthetic pleasure and potential for value appreciation. In recent years, Romanian contemporary art has become a frequent topic of discussion in the investment world, as a new segment with an impressive potential for financial growth in a relatively short or at least medium time. Portfolio diversification, potential for value growth or personal passion are just some of the reasons for choosing contemporary art, which brings impressive returns to new collector-investors.
Collectors and investors have a new opportunity to invest during the postmodern and contemporary art auction on July 6. The event, organized by the auction house A10 by Artmark, with a starting price of approximately 300,000 euros, brings together the most important contemporary Romanian artists, who are increasingly sought after by collectors and investors – from Corneliu Bab, Horia Damian, Constantin Piluce to Andrej Cadere, Felix Aftene or Irina Dragomir , which set records for the last 5 years in the Romanian art market and brought the judges an interesting income.
An interesting example of an artist whose share has crossed generations, establishing itself at an increasingly expensive price for current collectors and art investors, is Sabin Balasha, who conquered the audience of subsequent generations with his blue universe, starting from the 1980s. Ten years later, the artist’s market share was growing, and works signed by Sabin Balasha eventually fetched record prices. Sabin Bălașa’s last record was set at a contemporary art auction in February 2022 – the large-scale work “Galactic Journey” fetched €60,000, and a few weeks ago, at the Summer Auction, the work “Journey” fetched €50,000. being the longest work from the auction (11 minutes). At the auction on Thursday, July 6, Sabin Balasha is presented with three important works from different periods of his work. “Muses” of 1987 will be sold at the auction at a starting price of 10,000 euros, and “Mistress of the World” of 1986 will start at 7,000 euros. The work “Adolescence” dates from the same year, the starting price of which is 6,000 euros (and the auction of the painting “Three Graces”, signed by Balash, will start at a price of only 300 euros).
“After Brancusi, Cadere is the only artist of Romanian descent who is significant in contemporary art,” noted art historian Erwin Kessler. Andrej Kadere is an artist who is ranked seventh in the “100 Best Masters of Romanian Art” and in the auction on July 6 he is presented with the work “A Clockwork Orange” with a starting price of 12,000 euros, followed by Corneliu Baba, whose work “Spaniola” has a starting price of 10,000 euros.
The postmodern and contemporary art auction will take place on Thursday, July 6 at 19:00 at the headquarters of Artmark – Palatul Cesianu-Racoviță, where works signed by the most important contemporary Romanian artists are on display. The exhibition is open to the general public from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
