​​The Alliance for the Union of Romanians party, led by George Simion, lost more than a quarter of the elected members who entered the parliament after the 2020 elections. In this context, the AUR president announced a number of new names that will run on party lists in 2024, and one of the things they have in common is a fondness for far-right conspiracy theories.

Since the beginning of the year, George Simion has announced that Pastor Christian Terhesch will head the list from AUR in the upcoming elections to the European Parliament. Terhes became famous during the mandate of Liviu Dragnea, when he constantly took part in anti-justice shows and criticized the rule of law. This immediately propelled him onto the PSD lists for the 2019 European Parliament elections, where he won a mandate in Brussels. From the PSD, he moved to the PNȚCD, from where he was expelled last year for allegedly not paying membership fees.
