Amelia is only 2 years old, and every day she is subjected to terrible torment. For four months, the girl was confined to a hospital bed, connected to infusions. At the age of only 2, Amelia is undergoing chemotherapy.
“Every day is extremely difficult. He has bouts of vomiting, prolonged bouts of crying. Each chemotherapy session is life-saving, but at the same time extremely painful for a child weighing only a few kilograms. It breaks my heart to have to help the doctors immobilize her so they can put her in a brace. She struggles, nags me for helping her, and I have to be strong and comfort her as much as possible. She is very sick after chemotherapy. My husband and I take turns doing this 24 hours a day. Here, not only parents are allowed to stay with a sick child in the hospital, but also distant family, and they even recommend showing care, love, and support to the little one. A child with cancer goes through extremely difficult moments, as does his family.” These are the words of a mother who goes through the suffering of her newborn child every day, but it is so difficult.
Dorina is 25 years old, Oleksandr is 26. A young couple who dreamed of a family, a healthy child to be raised in peace and harmony. Like many Romanians, after graduation, they went on a journey of travel. They settled in Great Britain. Alexandru found a job in construction, and Dorina worked at home, on the Internet. Meanwhile, the angel Amelia appeared in their lives. However, the young family’s world collapsed when their daughter was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
“On February 15, my child became very sick. The fever lasted night after night. He had no appetite. He had no energy. And at one point he just fell off his feet. I rushed her to the hospital. After a wrong diagnosis by British doctors and after the introduction of an antibiotic that turned out to be too strong for her body and therefore weakened, we decided to urgently go to Turkey. When I arrived in Istanbul, where my mother-in-law lives, the girl was very sick and white, like her cousin. I accepted it urgently. I can’t put into words how I felt when I was diagnosed, I just knew that everything was going to be okay, there was no other way for us.
Amelia has been undergoing chemotherapy for 4 months. It feels much better than at the beginning of the disease, but intensive treatment for 7-8 months is required for recovery. Any interruption can be fatal for him. In just one month, Kara’s family paid 50,000 euros, thus exhausting all financial resources, including donations from relatives and friends. However, life-saving treatment costs €240,000.
“Amelia’s only chance to survive is the help of good people. A friend told us about the fundraising campaigns that the Save a Heart Association has been running for years. We are counting on this community and anyone who learns Amelia’s story and can help. We are grateful to each of them,” Dorina told us with hope in her eyes.
“Leukemia can be cured, but treatment is extremely expensive. Life has no price, but the world we live in sometimes makes us pay for survival… Anyone who understands and feels the suffering of this family can make a small donation to the accounts of the “Save the Heart” Association. Together we can raise the amount needed for healing. Amelia must live, and we can give her this chance to live!” – Vlad Placinte, president of the “Save the Heart” Association.
