The capital’s general mayor, Nikušor Dan, said Monday night on Digi 24, referring to the mosquitoes in Bucharest, that it would be more effective to destroy the larvae, but it is extremely difficult, given the numerous water sources and wetlands in the city, News.ro reports.

“If I’m not mistaken, we are on the fifth processing out of 15. We finally have money, there are no delays in payment, the work is going according to plan,” the mayor told Digi 24.

The mayor also stated that mosquito larvae are a problem and cannot be eradicated.

“What we can’t do, because it’s a big city with a lot of water sources and wetlands, both public and private, is we can’t kill the grubs when we have to. I mean, it’s much more effective to kill the larvae, if you can do it, than to fight all the mosquitoes from all the trees in Bucharest,” said Nikusor Dan.

Currently, the quality of this service is at the level of last year, the mayor also says.

“In terms of the quality of this service, we are approximately at the level of last year. I expect us to be a little better than last year because it was a little more systematic with the grubs, but it’s not a problem we know how to solve,” Nikushor Dan added.
