Human remains were discovered by tourists in the San Antonio area of California, not far from where British actor Julian Sands disappeared five months ago, local authorities said on Sunday, according to AFP.
Human remains were found Saturday morning in the wild, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
“Hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Office after discovering human remains near the mountain,” the report said.
They were taken to a forensic medical examination for identification. The trial is expected to conclude next week.
Julian Sands, 65, who rose to fame in 1985 for his role in the movie “A Room with a View,” disappeared in January on San Antonio’s 3,000-foot mountain, known locally as Mount Baldy Meter, north of Los Angeles.
In an interview with The Guardian in 2018, Sands spoke about his passion for mountaineering and the importance of new adventures as he gets older.
In another 2020 interview, he described himself as being happiest when he’s “near the top of the mountain on a beautiful cold morning.”
California was hit by a series of severe storms in December and January, which were accompanied by heavy snowfall in mountainous areas, including Mount San Antonio.
The area where Sands disappeared is the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains and a popular destination for Los Angeles residents.
Julian Sands, who grew up in Yorkshire, has had a challenging film career spanning decades, appearing in dozens of film and television roles. For several years now, the actor has been living in the Los Angeles area with his wife, the writer Evgenia Tsitkovits. Sands has three children. (Agerpress)
