Polls indicate a clear victory for the conservative party “New Democracy” (Nea Dimokratia, ND), led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Some polls indicate that the formation can gain more than 40% of the vote.

In second place will be the Alliance of Left Radicals (Syriza), led by Alexis Tsipras, who, according to polls, could get about 20% of the vote.

In total, 32 parties are participating in these elections.

Polling stations opened at 07:00 local time and will close at 19:00.

The formation of a Mitsotakis-led government is almost certain thanks to Greece’s electoral system, in which the strongest party wins at least 20 seats in the 300-seat parliament.

Greece has about 11 million inhabitants, but the number of people with the right to vote also includes many Greeks living abroad. (Agerpress)
