Sorana Kirstia (38 WTA) missed the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 in Birmingham after losing to Poland’s Magdalena Frech (72 WTA) 6-3, 6(1)-7, 6-4.

The Romanian started the match weakly, and Frech led the first set and won after repeated mistakes by Sorana.

In the second set, the match was balanced, until the tie-break, where our athlete did not give her opponent a single chance, they were equal – 7-1.

The final was exciting again, with Magdalena Frech taking a 4-1 lead, Sorana recovering from polka mistakes but not being as focused in the end.

The game lasted two hours and 34 minutes and was interrupted for extra time due to rain.

Seeded at number 8, the Romanian missed a dream match in the quarterfinals with the winner of Venus Williams and Jelena Ostapenko.

In the first round, Sorana won the Romanian duel against Ana Bohdan (61 WTA, out of qualification) with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

For her trip, Sorana Karstea received a check for $3,920, as well as 30 points in the WTA singles ranking.

The Rothesay Classic Birmingham will be held from June 19 to 25 on grass and is part of the WTA 250. It offers a total prize pool of $259,303 and the reigning champion is Beatrice Haddad Maia.
