You have a few thousand lei, you see inflation that is still high, and you want to put it somewhere because you know you won’t touch it for 1-3 years. You saw that the new series Thesaurus shows, with slightly lower percentages than last month. At the same time, look at the banks.

You probably don’t look at the stock market or similar instruments because you have a low risk appetite.

Suppose you have 2,000 lei and you are looking at the BNR inflation forecast for the end of the second quarter of 2023. On this amount, you should have a profit of at least 104 lei to cover the price increase.

*for bank offers, we used Finzoom.ro and Conso.ro calculators

Offers from banks and the Tezaur program for 1 year from June to July

Banks offer 7-8.45% interest on deposits for 1 year. It should be noted that in this case commissions matter, and the winnings are also taxable. Thus, the profit from this amount would be 14.8 – 152 lei.

In the case of Tezaur for one year, where the interest is 6.5%, the profit is 130 lei.

*In the case of government securities, the profit is not taxable

Bank and state offers for 3 years

Banks offer interest of 7-8% for 3 years, and the profit from this amount will be 142-432 lei, accumulated over 3 years, after paying income tax and commissions.

*It should be noted that we did not use interest capitalization

The June Treasury offers a slightly lower interest rate than in May. So, at an interest rate of 7.3%/year, you will receive 438 lei. This means that you will receive 146 lei every year.

If you have a little more money and you use banks, you will have to do some calculations. Let’s not forget that the state made changes to the Fiscal Code and introduced new restrictions for the payment of KAS. Therefore, with earnings in the amount of 6, 12 or 24 minimum wages, you must also pay a contribution for medical care, that is, submit a single declaration. Income tax is withheld at source. Government securities are not taxed and CASS is not payable.
