At the age of 7, David stands, leaning on a frame, but most often behind his parents. He recently took the first steps. A cheerful child who loves to play. But David’s childhood is both happy and sad. He was born prematurely, at just 26 weeks, by emergency caesarean section. Immediately after birth, the little boy suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. For several tens of seconds, his brain was deprived of oxygen. Although doctors managed to save him, the injuries sustained during the shock could not be repaired. David began having neonatal seizures, which later turned into epileptic seizures.

“It was a shock for us. I had no problems during pregnancy, at all. Everything was perfect until 26 weeks when I started having severe contractions and was rushed to the operating table and both me and the baby were in danger. David also had a grade 4 intraventricular hemorrhage after birth, which also left consequences that we are still dealing with. His premature birth left him with multiple diagnoses, from spastic tetraparesis, cerebellar pons hypoplasia to epilepsy,” Christina Petrishore, David’s mother, told us.

From 5 months, the little boy starts his day with restorative therapies. Today he manages to stand up with support, take a few steps, holding his hand. In addition to the mobility impairment, the little boy also has cognitive retardation. Although he is 7 years old, David thinks like a two-year-old. With the help of speech therapy and other alternative methods of treatment, the boy began to speak.

“The prognosis with which I came out of maternity leave was very bad. We were told that he would never be able to do anything, that he would be a vegetable all his life, but here we are through: work, treatment, care, attention, love, helped him develop. We are constantly looking for solutions, which is why we learned about the possibility of autotransplantation of stem cells in Austria. The doctors there told us that the intervention would reduce the number of epileptic seizures. We would be very happy because they are quite aggressive at the moment. Therapy often has to be stopped for a day or two, depending on how long it takes for him to recover. They were also given when, after repeated epileptic seizures, David forgot everything he had learned in the past few weeks and we had to start all over again,” David’s mother told us.

The Petrishor family’s nightmare could end in Vienna, where a private clinic agreed to do the transplant. However, David’s parents need help, the intervention costs 12,000 euros.

“The man works as a driver (ridesharing) and has an income of approximately 2,000 lei per month. I stay at home with David. His condition does not allow him to be enrolled in kindergarten: he does not eat, dress, or wash himself. Also, he needs my presence in therapy. David is our only child and we want to give him everything we can because he deserves it because he works so hard. We have integrated him into society and are proud of him and all that he has achieved! We hope that we will reach the moment when we can go to kindergarten and school. We don’t give up!”, Christina is determined.

“In order for David’s life to be as close to normal as possible, 12 thousand euros must be collected before the beginning of September, when the transplant is scheduled. Without our help, his family will not be able to give him this chance. Any donation to the accounts of the “Save the Heart” Association brings the 7-year-old boy closer to a normal life.” Vlad Placinte, president of the “Save the Heart” Association.
