The American reached the 1/8 finals of the WTA tournament in Birmingham, defeating Camila Giorgi (48 WTA) in 3 sets with the score 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(6).

With 7 Grand Slam tournaments under her belt, Venus Williams took 3 hours and 16 minutes to overtake the Italian.

In the 1/8 finals, Venus will meet the winner of the duel between Linda Noskova (49 WTA) and Yelena Ostapenko (17 WTA).

The Rothesay Classic Birmingham will be held from June 19 to 25 on grass and is part of the WTA 250. It offers a total prize pool of $259,303 and the reigning champion is Beatrice Haddad Maia.
