“Hungary will vote ‘against’ the EC’s electricity market reform proposal, which would deprive member state governments of the right to keep electricity prices at a low level,” Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Facebook. regarding statements made to the press in Luxembourg.

He accused Brussels of wanting to give the right to decide when an energy crisis occurs and whether to allow states to impose price caps on certain energy sources.

Szijjarto reminded that Hungary has already won the case at the Court of the European Union, which established that Brussels “does not have the right to limit national powers in this area.”

The European Commission has called on the energy ministers of the 27 member states to reach an agreement as soon as possible on the reform of the electricity market, so that it is ready to face possible future crises and allows to accelerate investments in renewable energy sources. .

The aim of the Energy Council session is to reach an agreement on the reform of the electricity market, which will later be discussed in the European Parliament, a stage that will take place in the second half of the year when Spain takes over the EU presidency.

At the same time, Sijarto predicts that there will be “big discussions” on this topic.

. In his opinion, it is the governments of the participating countries that have the ability to find solutions to difficulties, and not “extremely long bureaucratic procedures from Brussels.”
