The Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet, reports that after the monitoring carried out at the national level by several institutions, as well as after the discussions he had with his colleagues in Ukraine and Bulgaria regarding the disaster caused by the rupture of the Novaya Kakhovka dam in Ukraine, there is currently no cause for concern regarding water quality in the Black Sea.
“The general conclusion was that the water of the Black Sea is within normal limits, regardless of whether we are talking about physico-chemical parameters or microbiological load,” says Mircha.
The Minister of the Environment said on Saturday in an intervention on Digi 24 that on Friday he summoned representatives of several institutions to the Ministry of the Environment to discuss the monitoring of water quality in the Black Sea.
What the minister says about the panic about the risk of cholera
“It is important that after listening to all the specialists, the general conclusion was that the water of the Black Sea is within normal limits, whether we are talking about physico-chemical indicators or whether we are talking about microbiological load, the situation that gave rise to this panic regarding the risk of cholera.
The director of the National Institute of Public Health assured me that the INSP takes water samples every day, they check not only for cholera, but also for other pathogens like E-coli etc.
So far there are no reasons for concern. Together with specialists, we evaluated satellite images to be able to have a forecast of the development of the Dnieper load, because from the mouth of the Dnieper to Romanian territorial waters, although it is a long distance, we must also constantly monitor it. Today, everyone came to the conclusion that nothing threatens us,” Mircha Fechet said.
He noted that monitoring of water quality in the Black Sea will continue.
Romania maintains relations with Bulgaria and Ukraine
Mircea Fechet clarified that he also discussed with his colleague from Bulgaria, after the discussion, the Bulgarian Minister of Environment said that no danger was found in the waters of Bulgaria in terms of water quality, after physico-chemical and microbiological determinations.
The new Minister of the Environment of Romania also stated that he spoke on the phone with the Minister of Ecology of Ukraine, from whom he demanded “any information related to the microbiological or physical and chemical load of the Dnipro.”
“I could say that at the moment we are sure that there is no danger for the population,” concluded Minister Mircea Fechet. (News.ro)
