- “We will never cooperate with pro-Russian extremism, with extremism that wants to take us out of Europe, with extremism that even the PSD encourages, in the hope that next year they will repeat the laboratory scenario. (…) Extremism was encouraged by the PSD last year. This is a lab plan that has gotten out of hand.
- Those who introduce phrases like “modern slaves of Europe” into the government’s program should be held accountable. Ask Mr. Čolaka what kind of hate speech and humiliation he encourages with such phrases,” the USR leader said at a press conference, according to Agerpres.
According to him, the USR congress to be held on Saturday is “the beginning of the struggle for 2024” and to remove the PSD from power, and the USR wants to take over the “leadership of the democratic opposition” in Romania and build an alternative to the current government:
- “Today we start the fight for 2024 and tell Romanians clearly and directly that they will have an alternative.
- Next year, we will eliminate the PSD along with the pro-Russian extremist growth they created. Next year, we propose a step pole around the USR, which will have solutions for all rounds of elections, and we will build this government program based on the reforms that Romania needs.”
“Excellent” cooperation with the party of Ludovic Orban and “professional” with UDMR
Drula added that the USR cooperates “awesomely” in the parliament with those in Forţa Dreptei, and together they have stopped the “numerous donkeys” of those in power. Also, for many years there was “correct and professional” cooperation with UDMR.
- “I had excellent cooperation with those from UDMR, and when I was in the government, on the principles with which we came, with the government program, on reforms, on investments. Even I, as the Minister of Transport, had many projects that I shared with the Minister of Environment or the Minister of Development.
- Later, in the parliament, we will oppose this government. (…) From our side, as shown by the signal and the invitation we gave, it is openness. (…) We are open to Romanian society. USR believes in an open society, USR is an open party, and USR is reaching out and calling on all Romanians who want change to join us,” he said.
Regarding the participation of Mayor General Nikusor Dan in the USR Congress, Catalin Drula stated that the Union of Salvation of Romania will not leave Bucharest “in the hands of Gabriela Firea” in 2024:
- “Today, at the congress we are having, we are asking our colleagues for a mandate for this political strategy. Strong strategy in Romanian politics. A strategy in which we are open to the public. Here I also mean people from civil society, businessmen, all Romanians who are tired of this pesedism, which we were lied to that we would get rid of forever, and here we have it in all its glory in the government.
- There will be discussions later, there is time before the elections. The signal we are sending is construction around the UDR.”
