Kelemen Gunor, present at the USR Congress on Saturday, admitted that he had emotions because he had not participated in a similar event organized by an opposition party “for a long time” and also hinted that the formation he leads, the UMDR , was expelled from the PSD and PNL government.

He thanked USR leader Catalin Drula for the invitation, noting that it came three weeks ago.
“Neither you nor I knew – maybe someone in this country did – but we certainly didn’t know what was going to happen in three weeks. I have emotions, I must admit, in front of you (…) because I haven’t been to the congress of the opposition party for a long time.
But I’m trying to get used to it, and it’s a good thing I found you after our forced landing. You know the feeling. I don’t need to explain to you what it’s like when you’ve done the work and wake up on the platform.
But today I will not talk about our disagreements and I will not seek explanations for what happened, although, by the way, these are legitimate questions; it may be due to greed, it may be due to revenge, it may be due to a strategic error. It doesn’t matter anymore,” said Kelemen Hunor, his statement was made in the context of the fact that the UDMR was no longer co-opted into the government after the “rotation”.
He emphasized that today the relationship between the citizen and the state, between society and the political class is characterized by a “lack of trust”. According to the UDMR leader, the biggest challenge for the political class is to restore trust and hope. He emphasized that trust is “the most important capital”.
“Regardless of the conditions on which we cooperated, on which conditions we concluded contracts from time to time, we knew only one thing: dignity is the value that we do not touch. And then we can move on. We have to show society that the period of “let go, so on” is over, because it cannot be like this anymore.
If a person sees that those who ask for their vote promise anything for that vote, then turn their backs and do something else, we will surely lose, and the place will be taken by others, those who promote hatred, those who seek. conflict, those to whom I promise revenge.
And I think it would be the biggest mistake to allow extremist ideas, ideas that turn against every person, to ultimately gain the upper hand. If we look at the political landscape, we see that this danger exists. And it will be our responsibility – and yours, and ours, and PSD, and PNL, in the end – if we ever manage to say “stop” extremism,” he emphasized.
Kelemen Hunor also said that for “years” Romania no longer has the “initiative”, although it has an “extraordinary role and opportunity”.
“Many things can be said about our role in the EU, about our role in the region, but there is still a long way from saying names to their implementation. And I am convinced that this will change from next year.
I know foreign policy is not done in the spotlight, but you can’t do it in secret. You can’t do it in complete obscurity either. Or maybe there are initiatives, but we don’t know, this is a state secret, they are well kept. sin.
Because Romania really has much more to offer in this position. Firstly, to the citizens, secondly, to all the nations of the region and thirdly, to the European Union. And this should change next year,” said the president of UDMR.
He noted that two and a half years ago, the USR and UDMR “walked together”, but ten months later they parted ways.
“I continued because I was conscientious, I knew that we had to offer society professionalism, seriousness and work, work, work, a lot of work. And now I am convinced that the country needs something similar. We have a good perspective. I believe that by the end of the decade, if we do not make mistakes, if something unexpected happens, the face of Romania will change. These opportunities cannot be lost,” said Kelemen Hunor.
