Russian air defense units at night repelled an attack by Ukrainian drones on the pumping station of the Druzhba oil pipeline in the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, the governor of the region said on Saturday, according to Reuters and AFP.

“Russian air defense systems in the Novozybkov region repelled an attack by Ukrainian troops on an oil facility at night,” Bryansk Oblast Governor Oleksandr Bogomaz wrote in Telegram.

“Thanks to the professionalism of our military (…) three drones were destroyed,” he added.

The southern branch of the Soviet-era Druzhba pipeline passes through Ukraine and, despite the conflict in that country, continues to supply crude oil to Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Drone attacks have increased in Russia in recent weeks, often targeting energy facilities. Russia blames Ukraine, although Kyiv does not publicly admit responsibility.
