Calea Victoriei and Aleea Circului become pedestrianized again on Saturday and Sunday thanks to the “Open Streets” project, with theater performances, workshops, concerts and a folk costume parade.

According to the City Hall, Calea Victoriei will be pedestrianized between Piaţa Victoriei and Independence Splai from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Circului Alley between Şoseaua Şefan cel Mare and Circus de State from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The program includes children’s theater, puppet theater and readings, as well as creative workshops, magic and circus acts, modern dance and concerts of popular music, promenade and pop music.

International folklore festival on Calea Victoria

Thus, on Saturday, the International Festival of Folklore, Music and Traditions arrives at Calea Victoriei with a national and international parade of folk costumes.

“More than 400 artists will proudly present their costumes, songs and dances, celebrating cultural diversity during the parade that marks the opening of the Bucharest International Festival of Folklore, Music and Traditions,” the municipality said.

The parade will start at 14:00 from George Enescu Square (Romanian Athenaeum) on Calea Victoriei and will lead the artists and the public to Victory Square, all the way to Kiseleva Road. On the stage of the festival, from 15.00, an artistic program will begin, which will bring together stars of popular music, ensembles and orchestras representing all regions of the country, minorities and national communities, and international ensembles.

Theater marathon for children in front of the National Art Museum

Children are waiting for creative workshops on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the garden of the National Museum of Romanian Literature, and on Calea Victoriei from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. they will be able to discover what is inside a fire engine.

A theater marathon for children, supported by Teatruli de Animaţie Tândărică, will take place in front of the National Art Museum of Romania on Saturday at 18.00.

In sector 2, the art program starts at 14:00 on the pedestrian road on Aleea Circului. From readings to concerts of popular music, pop music and promenade music to contemporary dance, magic and circus acts on both weekends, Open Streets – Bucharest offers residents of the Stefan cel Mare district a new series of events and activities for all tastes and age”, reports the capital’s mayor’s office.

The Filipescu-Cesianu House of the Bucharest City Museum hosts three exhibitions, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Among them is the first exhibition project of the urban anthropological museum in Romania – “Museum of Ages – from childhood to old age”, which presents the evolution of relations between generations over the last three hundred years in the Romanian urban environment.

The School of Popular Art is included in the “Open Streets – Bucharest” program with workshops and exhibitions of painting, decorative arts and photography at its headquarters in Sector 4 (100 Cuza Vode Street).

On Saturday (between 17.00 – 18.30 and 19.00 – 20.30) and on Sunday (between 17.30 – 18.20; 18.40 – 19.30 and 19.40 – 20.30) the actors of the Masca theater present in front of the National History Museum of Romania a show for children and lessons of living history statues

Movement restrictions

On Saturday and Sunday, during the imposed restrictions, crossing will be allowed on Calea Victoria Street, Sevastopol Street, Gheorghe Manu Street, Dacia Boulevard, Iona Campignanu Street, Regina Elizabeth Boulevard, Štirbey Vode Street between Calea Victoria and Dem. I. Dobrescu. Bucharest Transport Company traffic will be rerouted without affecting passengers.

Residents will be allowed access to their homes as well as businesses in the area according to the signs temporarily installed during the restrictions on the following streets: Frumoasă Street between Sevastopol Street and Calea Victoriei, Gina Patrichi Street between Lascăr Catargiu Boulevard and Calea Victoriei, Griviţei street between Constantin Budişteanu and Calea Victoriei, indicating that residents’ vehicular access will be redirected to the alley in front of Štirbey Palace, then to Banului street.

During the Open Streets weekend, traffic on Calea Victoria is restored from night to morning (Saturday to Sunday) from 10:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Bicycle lanes are also closed on arteries where cars no longer drive.

During June 17-18, traffic will be restricted on Aleea Circului and adjacent streets, between Ştefan cel Mare and Circul de State roads, starting on Friday at 10:00 p.m. and resuming on Monday starting at 1:00 a.m.
