The parties in the coalition have not yet agreed on the formula of the new executive, and it is not known whether the UDMR will remain in the current government formula, unless it gives up the development portfolio.

According to Coalition protocol, Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke was due to submit his mandate at the end of May, but the decision has been delayed several times recently due to tensions surrounding a massive education strike that has lasted more than three weeks.

Initially, the leaders of the coalition, together with President Klaus Iohannis, decided that the round of prime ministers would take place only after the end of the strike in education. However, given the protracted nature of the crisis, a decision on the resignations will be made on Monday, hoping for a favorable response from education unions to the latest offer to teachers.

Even if the educational strike ends and the government rotates, the coalition faces the problem of negotiations on the formation of a new government. Thus, the UDMR was asked to take two ministries, energy and investment and European funds and abandon the environment and development. The UDMR announced on Sunday evening in the voice of its leader Kelemen Hunor that he does not accept this proposal from the PSD, but they will remain at the negotiating table and insist on following the original protocol.

Marcel Cholaku wants to outline his cabinet and the new government program in an accelerated calendar so that the new executive body is approved by parliament by Thursday. On Monday, the teachers’ strike continues, and at 10:00 the unions will announce their response to the Government’s latest proposal, that is, whether teachers will continue the protest action that began three weeks ago.

Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke said after consultations with education unions that the executive had shown it had delivered on what it had promised, and a new cabinet meeting would be held on Monday to approve the GEO on salaries, following a response from teachers.
