Three people were injured by shrapnel on Friday after a drone crashed into a residential building in the southern Russian city of Voronezh, regional governor Oleksandr Gusev said, according to Reuters.

Photos posted on social media show damage and marks on the facade of the affected block.

Gusev said three people were treated at the scene and declined to be hospitalized, suggesting their injuries were minor.

Drone attacks on Russian territory have become a frequent phenomenon, but they tend to occur in areas such as Belgorod, which are closer to Ukraine.

The Kremlin said that Russian intelligence is investigating the attack, which it blamed on Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov said that special services are working to find out the details of the incident.

Voronezh is located approximately 180 km from the border with Ukraine.

Ukraine does not comment on the alleged cross-border attacks in Russia.

Last month, Russia accused Ukraine of launching two drones at the Kremlin in an attempt to kill President Vladimir Putin. Kyiv denies its involvement in the incident. (photo source DreamsTime)
