Finance Minister Adrian Cachiu said on Thursday that the total budget effort, with all the wage increases passed so far, not only for education but also for health and public order, will amount to 4 billion lei by the end of this year. stressing that the correction budget will be quite difficult to reallocate resources.

On Thursday, HotNews.ro asked the finance minister where the financial resources were found to increase the salaries of non-teaching staff, teachers, health workers, police and military, and whether there are still resources for the larger salary increases demanded by teachers. this year to end the strike.

• “I found these funds in the budget resources that are now available to Romania through creditors that will have to finance these costs. Obviously, the fix will be quite difficult, but it will continue by reallocating resources and changing the priorities of some actions.

Asked if there was scope for another teacher pay raise this year, Cachiu said “at this point, it’s the maximum” of the designated resources.

• “At the moment, I would say that we should wait until the end of the first semester for the economic evolution to take place, which is what we require from institutions that have fees, but another thing has also happened … not only from the income that you pay, you have to to receive these amounts so that they are available to society, but also from national economic programs for the economic multiplication of private investments.
• So, the money that we have given to various ministries for programs that will cover the economy should be used as soon as possible to ensure economic multiplication, taxes and additional revenues to the budget, and then in the second half of the year we will have this discussion. At the moment, it was the maximum… I was with the negotiators from the government, providing the resources that we found at that moment,” Cachiu said.
