Ten years after its solemn appearance in Victoria Harbor in Australia, first big duck Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, his floating yellow work, is back and even with… company!
AllRightsReserved Studio, which often organizes mass cultural events in Hong Kongannounced last week that a pair of floating Hoffman ducks will appear in June, with a new installation aptly titled “Double Ducks.”
While on a trial run, two giant ducks were spotted “swimming” in tow in the waters of Ching Yi, the fifth largest island in Hong Kong’s urban area.
Two ducks, 18 meters tall, are slightly larger than their “ancestor”, which debuted in Hong Kong ten years earlier.
“The play emphasizes friendship and connection. Double Ducks is not about the past, it’s about enjoying it and the present together,” Hoffman said in a statement.
The first rubber duck appeared in cities like Osaka, Sydney and Sao Paulo before arriving in the semi-autonomous Chinese city of Hong Kong in May 2013. Although Hoffman’s ducks are the same, they are different works that originated in a different region.
