The traffickers planned to ferry the migrants inland to move them to other European countries.
The operation arrested seven foreign traffickers and identified ten irregular immigrants who had previously landed in the Psalidi coastal area of Kos.
The first group of five people, accompanied by two foreigners aged 23 and 67, suspected of human trafficking, was seen in the port of Mastichari on the island of Kos. This group planned to move to the island of Kalymnos. The second group of five people had an accident near a private auto repair shop in the “Pili” area. There were also detained five foreigners aged 40, 31, 26, 29 and 30 who are suspected of human trafficking.
With the assistance of EYP Security and Border Protection Directorate (DAPTHAS) and Kos Port Authority security officials, the mode of operation of the ring was investigated. The main organizer of the criminal group is a foreigner living in Turkey, who recruited seven of the arrested.
