The United States learned about the Ukrainian plan to attack the Nord Stream gas pipelines three months before they were supposed to be damaged last September by underwater explosionsThis was reported by The Washington Post on Tuesday with reference to information leaked and published on the Internet, Reuters reports.
Last June, through the European spy agency, the CIA learned that a six-person Ukrainian special forces team was planning to blow up Nord Stream, the publication reports.
The information was allegedly shared online on Discord by Jack Teixeira, who was arrested in April and charged with leaking classified US documents. The Washington Post said it received a copy from one of Teixeira’s online friends.

The intelligence report is based on information provided by a person in Ukraine, the Washington Post reported, adding that the CIA shared it with Germany and other European countries in June 2022.
WP reported that officials from several countries confirmed that the intelligence posted on Discord contained exactly what the European agency had told the CIA.
White House spokesman John Kirby said Monday that the investigation into the attack on Nord Stream is ongoing.
“The last thing we want to do from this podium is advance these investigations,” Kirby said when asked by the Washington Post for information on the matter.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 put Europe’s dependence on Russian natural gas in the political spotlight. The collapse of the Nord Stream pipeline has accelerated the transition of the region to other energy suppliers.
Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, each consisting of two pipelines, were built by state-controlled Gazprom to transport 110 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Germany.
The Washington Post said it had agreed to withhold the name of the European intelligence agency and some aspects of the alleged plan at the request of government officials, citing risks to sources and operations.
Reuters could not confirm the information provided by the Washington Post.
The explosions occurred in the economic zones of Sweden and Denmark. Both countries said the blasts were deliberate, but it has not yet been determined who was responsible. These countries and Germany are investigating.
Washington and NATO called the incident “an act of sabotage”. Moscow blamed the West, accusing investigators of trying to cover up who was behind the attack.
