The President of the “Spiru Haret” Federation, Marius Nistor, emphasized again that the demand of the trade unionists to increase the salary of newcomers in education is not contained in the text of the Government order, but only in the explanatory note, and the striking teachers do not want to end the labor conflict, because they do not have guarantees regarding salary increases and investments in education.
“One way or another, we will return to the chair, but this problem will remain,” he said.
“On the part of colleagues in the territory, the corresponding content is not perceived, the salary increase is not what the colleagues expected. On the other hand, we are talking about what we all want, that wage scale agreed with the Department of Education, drawn up at the Prime Minister’s request since January, as it is believed to be in place by the time they withdraw it. from the Law on Pre-University Education, the provision that the salary of a novice with a higher education must be equivalent to the average gross salary in the economy, and until it is specified in the text of the order, it appears only in the justification, which does not has legal force. Our colleagues cannot believe that some politicians, who canceled some articles of the law aimed at funding the education system, that blocked the application of some laws favorable to workers, will take into account a new rationale without any value,” Marius Nistor said on Sunday . , at Digi 24.
Nistor asked the Ministry of Justice to get involved.
“During discussions with us, the government argued that it was not in the GEO text on the grounds that the order could not contain a provision aimed at future legislation and that it would be unconstitutional (…) We have the Ministry of Justice to come and explain to us , whether it is possible or not. From the discussions we had with the teachers, they told us that it is possible, this rule can be included in the draft emergency order or it can be included in the entire salary scale agreed with the Ministry of Education in the emergency order ( .. .) Passed those times when the Government conducted strict negotiations with the leaders of the trade unions (…) At the moment, negotiations are conducted directly with those who are in the offices”, – claimed Marius Nistor.
The leader of the Federation of Trade Unions “Spiru Kharet” said that 75 percent of teachers are on strike.
“Most teachers are on strike. More than 75 percent of our teaching staff is on strike. At the moment, there is a desire to continue this strike,” Nistor said.
Marius Nistor added that the teachers will one way or another return to the department, but the problem of underfunding education will remain.
“Of course, there are certain limits, there are limits for us as well, there are limits for civil society, but everyone currently agrees that there are certain problems and they must be solved (…) Education must develop and cannot do this if will not be adequately funded. How can I believe a legislative package based on the idea of allocating 16 percent of the total consolidated budget, or I could believe it, but I have a question mark about what the Romanian parliamentarians could vote for in 7 months if they continue the article in the case or if they allocate 15% of the total consolidated budget. We know very clearly from sources at this point that it will be extended. And what are we talking about then? (…) One way or another, we will return to the chair, but this problem will remain (…) We only find excuses, it is not possible, there is a deficit, there is no money. This is not our job, it is the job of the executive power, the job of some politicians who must fulfill their duty,” said Marius Nistor.
The Federation of Education Trade Unions announced on Sunday that the strike continues and considers the text of the emergency order to increase salaries in the education system “unsatisfactory”. The trade unions ask the Government to adopt the changes, which are currently contained only in the Note to the justification of the resolution, by a regulatory act. “And the wage increase provided for in GEO 53/2023 was rejected by the union federations after consultation with the striking union members who considered the amounts too small,” the unions added. However, they claim that the strike is not only about salaries, but “the future of education as well.” “You have not convinced us that you will really invest in this area after the strike is over,” said union representatives.
