North Korea has sharply criticized the UN Security Council for discussing its recent satellite launch after “a request from gangster America,” Reuters reported.
Last week, the United States invited a meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss North Korea’s attempt to put its first spy satellite into orbit, which ended in failure when the launch vehicle and payload crashed into a large.
Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and a senior figure in the ruling party, said that by acquiescing to Washington’s “thug demand” and ignoring North Korea’s right to space development, the Security Council was showing it was a “political appendage” of the United States.
“I am very displeased with the fact that the UN Security Council so often calls North Korea to account for the exercise of its rights as a sovereign state at the request of the United States, and I bitterly condemn and reject this as the most unjust and biased act of interference in the country’s internal affairs and violation of its sovereignty Kim Jong-un said in a statement carried by the state-run KCNA news agency.
Referring to the satellite launch, she said North Korea had the right to defend itself against threats from the US and its allies, which she said were raising tensions over military exercises.
The UN sanctions resolutions are “a product of the hostile policies of the US and its vassal forces” and North Korea will never recognize them, she said, vowing to exercise its sovereign rights, including launching spy satellites.
