Because those rains that break out every now and then seem to limit the favorite habit of cinephiles in the summer. Some gym owners believe that the season has not yet begun. However, they are at work.

“In general, May is something like roulette. In other years everything goes well and the season starts over, while in others it rains. It’s an unstable factor,” he said. Alkis Gunaris, which “manages” among other things the central summer cinemas “Ekran” and “Electra”, as well as the suburban “Anixis”, “Arcadia” and “Kipos”. “If you exclude theaters in the center of Athens,” he continues, “tickets to the suburbs, where it is colder, are cheaper. OUR Ilias Georgiopoulos, who, in addition to Danaos, also has a central Anesis, exaggerates: “In fact, the summer has not yet begun,” he says and explains: “Just imagine, on Tuesday we didn’t play at all, we closed, which is unusual for May. It rained during the day, and when it does, it gets worse because people think, “Where I go, it’s going to be wet, it’s going to be cold.” And if it rains in the morning, we also have time to pack.”

As owner of the seaside Cine Flisvos and the suburban Cine Amaryllis, Lampros Mariolis it also has a wide pattern of weather conditions. It is, of course, a little gray: “We are open, but we only have expenses, as if the season has not yet begun,” he remarks and adds something, “there is no summer mentality in the world yet. We get calls asking if we’re going to play the movie or not, and some people ask, “Oh, are you open?” The fact that earlier, in early June, we did not discuss.

“All summer moviegoers experience… neck pain because we’re constantly looking up to check the weather,” says Peggy Riga joking and pointing out the familiarity of things. “Summer cinema has such a feature that everything influences it,” the manager of central cinemas such as Riviera, Athenaia and Vox reminds us. However, as he adds, it is precisely because of the pandemic in recent years that many summer shops have opened in early May, and not a little later. In any case, the canopy can come in handy in case of rain. And even if that doesn’t seem enough, Ms Riga emphasizes, “we usually tell the public to leave their tickets for another day.”

Of course, there are also fanatics. “The other day I happened to see The Spirits of Iniserin in Arcadia, in Byron, in the evening performance 11,” comments Alkis Gounaris, who also runs this hall. “It was cold, but 20 people showed up to watch the film in jackets and sweatshirts,” he says, noting that he is looking forward to better days. “This year,” he concludes, “there will be blockbusters, and quality films, and children’s films, and re-releases, so it will probably be a good summer. As far as anyone can predict.”

Lambros Mariolis remains a little baffled (mainly because “if the weather ‘makes’ you with two big movies, then every date you lose, you’ll never find it again”), but he also appreciates that, cinematically speaking, “there’s a lot of stuff in there” this summer. Ilias Georgiopoulos believes that “the world is not in the mood yet”, but remains optimistic, including because he will bring “big” films such as “Indiana Jones” and “Mission Impossible” – “and everything to make it so” . it, let it be, I’m not one of those who check the weather every day, ”he emphasizes. As for Peggy Righi, she is also reassuring the organizers of the book’s planned launch on the Riviera these days, worried about inclement weather. “I feel a little cooler,” she says calmly, “because I know the unpredictability of summer conditions.”
