“The president or prime minister of our country cannot appear on television and make humiliating statements about an entire professional caste. This is simply unacceptable, and it shows that these politicians are not really interested in the education system, except at a declarative, political level!” Klaus Johannis wrote in his 2014 book Step by Step, according to Edupedu. .

He complained about the teacher’s situation and even gave the example of a high school teacher who, according to him, reaches the level of existence if there are two teachers in the family.

“It’s hard to expect a high school teacher to do exceptionally well if he can’t support his family on the salary he’s getting. Maybe if both family members are teachers, they manage to achieve something called a ‘living wage’, but more than that, probably not,” Klaus Johannis wrote in 2014.

These statements in the book “Step by Step” seem to contrast with the position of President Iohannis on Thursday, when he harshly criticized the striking teachers.

“How dare someone disrupt the national exams? (…) They got everything they asked for, why should they continue the strike?” said the head of state.
